Our Week Ahead


WEST VALLEY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL STUDENTS SHALL DEMONSTRATE...

 

1.  Biblical principles and Christlike character in their daily lives as productive and responsible citizens.


For example, students are expected to:

Have accepted or been challenged to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.

Look to God and His Word daily as the source of truth and answers, respectfully challenging authorities that are contrary to God's Word.

Understand and demonstrate who they are in Christ by growth in their prayer lives and through positive choices that reflect the integration of biblical principles learned.

Exhibit self-discipline and accept individual and group responsibility.

 

2.  A solid academic foundation.


For example, students are expected to:

Be prepared academically with current, relevant curriculum and technology to live a God-centered life.

Understand that all subjects are related to the world God created.

Pursue further formal and informal educational opportunities and have a plan to meet their academic goals.

Meet or exceed California standards and UC/CSU admissions criteria for English, mathematics, science and social studies.

 

3.  Critical and creative thinking through evaluation and problem solving skills in both academic and real life situations.


For example, students are expected to:

Identify, assess, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information.

Combine and apply higher level thinking skills, processes, and competencies to develop and extend their efforts.

Transfer learned skills to a new task.

Demonstrate growth in the decision making/problem solving process.

Set, pursue and accomplish realistic yet challenging goals.

Demonstrate creative potential through expression in the visual and performing arts.

 

4.  Effective communication skills to include a concentration in cooperative team efforts. 


For example, students are expected to:

Give an original speech with poise, enunciation, and appropriate speed, volume, and pitch.

Write concise persuasive, expository, and creative essays that include supportive facts, transitions, logical structure, and grammatical coherence.

Gather data and suggest new ideas or improvements upon existing ideas.

Offer opinions and evaluations in a positive manner to maintain a productive climate.

Be aware of their world and its viewpoints, beliefs, and cultures through classroom discussion, debate and writing.

 

5.  Physically healthy lifestyles maintained through fitness and nutrition.


For example, students are expected to:

Respect the temple of the Holy Spirit, avoiding detrimental habits.

Establish and practice appropriate hygiene, proper nutrition, and physical fitness in order to develop and maintain physical and mental well being and a positive self image.

Model and practice sportsmanship and team unity.

 

6.  Competence in and application of technology.


For example, students ar expected to:

Use a computer and related software applications.

Apply computer skills for research and communication using the Internet.

Exhibit competence with other appropriate technologies.
